Join the Newark Museum on a four day getaway to experience Pittsburgh’s great artistic and architectural legacy, from the residential designs of American architect Frank Lloyd Wright to the outstanding museums and collections contributed by steel magnates, Andrew Carnegie and Henry Frick and native artist Andy Warhol. The trip includes round trip airfare from Newark airport, 3 nights at the elegant Renaissance Hotel, 2 breakfasts, 1 brunch , 3 lunches, and 2 dinners, tours and entrance fees.


Visit two important examples of frank Lloyd Wright's work in western Pennsylvania, Fallingwater, and Kentuck Knob, a newly opened Wright house. At the Frick Art and Historical Center, see a fascinating complex of museums and historical buildings located on the elegant estate in the city. The Andy Warhol Museum is the most comprehensive single-artist museum in the world.




1. Thursday, September 10 Depart from Newark Liberty Airport on Continental at 8:30am and arrive in Pittsburgh airport at 10:15am where we are met by our local guide. We have lunch and take an architectural tour of the city to see Pittsburgh’s significant landmarks ranging in date from 1896 to 1920’s. We visit the Cathedral of Learning, a 42-story Gothic-style building which has 26 museum-style classrooms—the Nationality Rooms—designed by internationally renowned architects and decorated in authentic style by local ethnic communities. After lunch we visit the Heinz History Center, an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, to see Pennsylvania’s largest history museum with exhibitions from American history with a Western Pennsylvania connection. We check into The historic Renaissance Hotel for 3 nights.  2. Friday, September 11 Today’s focus is on the architectural work of Frank Lloyd Wright. We begin with a tour of Fallingwater, Frank Lloyd Wright’s masterpiece located at Bear Run, 70 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. We will have lunch at a country restaurant. An afternoon guided tour of the Hagan House (Kentuck Knob), a newly opened Wright house, fills out the afternoon. Dinner this evening is on your own. (Breakfast/Lunch)
 3. Saturday, September 12 Today the focus is on the collections in two museums, founded by great industrialists and a third museum containing the work of a prominent native. We begin at the Carnegie Museum. Paul Mellon gave works to the Carnegie Museum of Art and helped establish there the Ailsa Mellon Bruce Decorative Arts Galleries to house his sister's collection of antique furniture. We will visit the Hall of Architecture which contains over 140 casts of doorways, columns, monuments, and architectural details representing masterpieces from antiquity to the Renaissance.
In the afternoon we visit the Frick Art and Historical Center, a fascinating complex of museums and historical buildings located on over five acres of lawns and gardens in Pittsburgh's residential East End. The Center is devoted to the interpretation of the life and times of industrialist and art collector Henry Clay Frick. Exhibitions of fine and decorative art are presented at the Center.  4. Sunday, September 13 After Brunch, visit the Andy Warhol Museum which has a permanent collection comprised of more than 4,000 works of art by Warhol including paintings, drawings, prints, photographs, sculpture, film, videotapes, and an extensive archives. The Andy Warhol Museum the most comprehensive single-artist museum in the world.
We continue to the airport for our Continental flight which departs at 3:40pm, arriving in Newark at 5:25pm.
