Explore the charming southern cities of Savannah and Charleston during the Spoleto USA Festival, the world class perfoming arts celebration. Our trip provides an enchanting stroll back in time and an invitation to discover the charms of the old South in the intimate museums and stately historic houses. An early bird special price of $1849.00 will be offered to those who send a $350. 00 deposit by February 1, 2005.




1. Wednesday, June 1 Savannah Our non-stop Continental flight departs Newark Liberty at 9:15am and arrives at 11:45am in Savannah, the legendary hostess city of the south. We enjoy two nights at the Mulberry Inn, surrounded by live oaks and historic squares. This intimate hotel preserves the charm of the past in harmony with the amenities of the present. After our lunch (included), we take a walking tour of Savannah, through the historic squares to enhance our visit to this wonderful city. Tonight we enjoy a welcome dinner at a local restaurant.
 2. Thursday, June 2 Savannah Today we tour three restored house museums. We begin at the Scarborough Museum, .the elegant setting for the museum's collection of paintings and maritime antiques, which has a beautifully landscaped garden. After lunch (included) we continue to the Telfair Museum, to view the permanent collection of paintings, including works by American painters, Childe Hassam, Robert Henri and George Bellows. We complete the day with a visit to the Owens Thomas House to see the splendid collection of decorative arts.
 3. Friday, June 3 St. Helena Island/Charleston We depart for Charleston in the morning, stopping at St. Helena Island for a visit to Penn Center, the site of one of the country's first school for freed slaves and one of the most significant African American historical institutions in existence today. We continue to Charleston for lunch and an introductory tour of this charming city. We spend three nights at the Holiday Inn Historic District, ideally located near many of the Spoleto events. There is a restaurant and lovely pool for leisure time. This evening we see our first Spoleto Performance, a striking new production of Mozart’s Opera, Don Giovani.
 4. Saturday, June 4 Charleston We visit the Charleston Museum, the first and oldest museum in the United States which tells the story of the city through its rich collection. We continue to Manigault House, one of the finest examples of neoclassical architecture in the United States. After lunch we tour the Gibbes Museum of Art, which displays one of the finest collections of American art in the Southeast. There are over 7,000 objects ranging from paintings, prints and drawings to photography, sculpture and miniature rooms. This evening we enjoy another Spoleto performance, an evening of jazz featuring the legendary vocalist, Shirely Horn.
 5. Sunday, June 5 Charleston On a harbor cruise we see Charleston’s famous Battery, and lively seaport and stop at historic Fort Sumter, the island fort where the Civil War began. The afternoon is free. Tonight we bid farewell at our group dinner.
 6. Monday, June 6 Charleston/Departure Following breakfast we travel to the airport for a Continental Airlines flight at 11:25am, arriving at Newark Liberty airport at 2:00pm.
